As an unseen clock struck the hour, a door in an empty hall creaked slowly open. Neji peaked through the crack and looked around.
“Everything’s clear,” he whispered, glancing back at the others, “Come on.”
Sasuke, Naruto, and Shikamaru snuck out into the hall after him, coming to a stop at the first door.
“Well, here’s the washroom. And what the heck is a ‘can-opener room’?” Sasuke mumbled, looking across at the adjacent door.
“You don’t want to know,” Neji shivered.
“What would they have a sauna and a flypaper room in a house for?” Naruto wondered.
“And what would a basting room and an enigma room be used for?” Shikamaru asked.
“What the hell kind of house is this?” they all muttered.
“I have no idea,” Sasuke sighed, “And what is the purpose of having a cementing room?”
“Why does this house have such weird rooms?” Shikamaru yawned, “I mean, why would anyone need rooms for such useless stuff. I don’t even know what half this stuff is.”
“Let’s keep moving,” Neji said, “These rooms are too distracting.”
They continued down the hall, passing rooms labeled with ‘laundry’, ‘kitchen’, ‘elephant house’, and ‘blood typing’. Finally the hall ended in a room labeled the simplest of all: ‘Stairs’.
“Well, obvious enough,” Naruto mumbled, “It’s that stairs, but where to?”
“I don’t trust them,” Sasuke frowned, “The stairs in this place have been evil in the past.”
“It’s not like we can go backwards,” Neji sighed, looking back down the hall, which ended in a wall, “It’s a dead end.”
“I say we go on,” Shikamaru replied, “I think that none of the other rooms will serve us any purpose.”
“So what? If we go, we may run into trap walls or something to try and squish us flat,” Naruto complained, “I’d rather be safe than sorry on this one.”
“I’m going in, like it or not,” Neji growled, grabbing the door handle and turning it. Nothing happened at first, but suddenly, the floor began to shake and a rumble filled the empty space.
“Now what?” Shikamaru groaned, struggling to keep his balance.
The wall at the end of the hall crumbled, revealing a large round stone. It began rolling towards them with incredible speed, leaving ruts in the walls and floor from its size and weight. They four boys pulled the door open and ran in, closing it behind them. As they waited for the impact of the stone on the door, it never came.
“What the hell was that thing doing there?” Sasuke shouted.
“And why the heck would they use something so cliché?” Naruto shrugged, a smile finding its way on to his face.
“Don’t make me hurt you Naruto,” his teammate replied with a frown.
“What!?!?! All I’m saying is that that idea is so overused. How many times have you seen that thing used before?”
“That’s not at all important now,” Neji mumbled, “We have to keep going. If we waste time arguing, we have less time to complete our mission.”
“Neji’s right,” Shikamaru agreed, “We have to…”
He stopped talking as his foot sank beneath him, having stepped on a trap step on the stairs.
   “Shikamaru,” Sasuke growled, “You idiot.”
The panel in the floor opened up beneath them, dropping them downwards into the dark.
Shikamaru does his stupid act for the chapter.
